A new report from the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has just been released on the economic impact of violence containment to the world economy.
One of the many harrowing statistics: the 2012 estimated global cost was $9.46 trillion or 11 percent of Gross World Product, which is more than 75 times our foreign aid expenditures. The United States violence costs constitute 10.5% of our GDP. Sadly, these numbers are conservative estimates.

► Take action now! Urge your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Department of Peacebuilding legislation. February 25th marks the day the Department of Peacebuilding (DoP) legislation was re-introduced last year by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13). We are also in the midst of the Season for Nonviolence, the 64-day period from January 30th to April 4th memorializing the dates Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. were assassinated. In honor of these two notable moments, we are urging Congress to support the DoP legislation.

Colorado is a national leader in pivoting away from the more punitive or punishment oriented models to the more restorative -- focusing on how to heal the harm and restore relationships.
