Petition to President and Congress: Terrorist attacks increase 10-fold, time for Peacebuilding over last decade
Friends, you may have seen the horrifying news recently about the terrorist attack on Tunisian beach resort in which at least 38 people were killed. Tragically, reports like these from all corners of the globe have been steadily increasing for the last few years.
In fact, according the the Global Peace Index report released recently, a new trend in terrorism is emerging. 20,000 people were killed in terrorist attacks in 2014, up from an average of 2,000 a year only 10 years ago. This despite $trillions spent and countless lives lost in the “war on terror.”
It seems clear that our strategies for dealing with terrorism and international conflict more generally have been grossly ineffective and many say is even counter-productive. Our long-term strategy and resources must focus much more on the work of peacebuilding.
Tell the President and Congress to support the Fostering International Peacebuilding Cornerstone >>
This Peacebuilding Cornerstone, which is part of our Be the Movement! initiative, focuses on:
“Championing peacebuilding approaches to international conflict and atrocity prevention in hotspots through mediation, diplomacy, and effective on-the-ground programs. Important components may involve development, post conflict justice, humanitarian aid, mediation, Restorative Justice, and support for frameworks necessary for democratic processes.“
Our elected officials need to hear from us. It is time to make major course adjustments and invest in strategies, and programs that are not only proven to be effective, but also help uplift humanity and steer us towards our highest good.
Join us, tell Congress and the President to stand STRONG for Peace around the planet!
Please share this widely.
Thank you,
.
